Day 100
Miles Traveled: 68
Total Miles Traveled: 1895
We had one of the worst weather days so far this trip. Cloudy, windy, cold, and even a small rain shower. The temperature barely got up to 50 degrees with north winds at 15 mph. Thank goodness we have a full enclosure for the flybridge, so we were able to stay reasonably warm with multiple layers of clothes.
There were seven
boats that left Kingfisher Bay Marina in the morning for the group lock through
at Demopolis Lock and Dam. This time of
year there are always a lot of boats traversing this waterway to get to warmer
weather. A pleasant surprise awaited us
after the lockage. A waterfall created
by the dam's spillway was a beautiful site on a cold and cloudy morning.

We cruised by the
remains of the old Rooster Bridge . On April
19, 1979 , the tow boat Cahaba was pushed
sideways and into the water under this bridge due to current and flood stage
waters. Miraculously, it righted itself
on the other side of the bridge.
Although badly damaged, one engine was still running and it continued on
under its own power. Fortunately, the
crew of three were not seriously injured.

There are not a lot
of great anchorages along this section of the river. But, thanks to Active Captain (an internet
based, self reported guide to anchorages and marinas), we found one that was
acceptable. Dan put our Little Buddie
propane heater to work and got the cabin warmed up so Angie could work on the
blog without having to use gloves.
