Day 347
Miles Traveled: 38
Total Miles Traveled: 5185

Rain with wind and thunderstorms were predicted for the afternoon.  Given that weather forecast, we arose early and left Hastings shortly after 6:00 amRice Lake was located just past Hastings.  This lake is 20 miles long and 2.5 miles wide.  Due to its size and shallow depth, it can get very choppy with wind.  We wanted to be off of the lake before the winds began to increase.  Our trip across Rice Lake was very pleasant, except for being overcast.  Scattered across the lakes are islands and fishing camp marinas.  This lake is known for its fishing.

We left Rice Lake via the Otonabee River.  This river is like many rivers in the United States - lots of twists and turns with a mud bottom.  On some banks, there were homes with docks or boat houses.  One interesting find was a boat house with a railway to get the boat out of the water and into the boat garage.

Along others sections of the Otonabee River, there wasn't a home to be found.  Trees and grasses lined the banks.

Unlike most of our recent days, this day, we only had to navigate one lock.  Just past the lock was the town of Peterborough, Ontario.  There is a nice municipal marina located there and we decided to stay and see the town.  The town and marina are located on Little Lake, just a short distance off of the Trent Severn Waterway.  Within the lake is a large fountain, welcoming boaters.

We docked just as the rain was starting.  Fortunately, it was not a downpour or the thunderstorm predicted.  The rain continued off and on until dinnertime when we ventured out to get a bite to eat.  After dinner, we had a quiet evening aboard "Seahorse".
