Day 29-30
Miles Traveled: 0
Total Miles Traveled: 759

Tuesday we rented a car and drove into downtown Nashville to see the sites.  Thank goodness that Enterprise will "pick you up".  We plan to use this service a lot over the next year.

We started our tour with the Ryman Auditorium.  This building started out as a Union Gospel Tabernacle in 1892 and was built by Thomas G. Ryman, a riverboat captain.  In 1904 it began hosting a variety of events, including religious revivals and boxing matches.  In 1943, it began hosting the Grand Ole Opry, and that continued until 1974 when the new Grand Ole Opry was built.  After a renovation in 1994 it reopened.

We took a break and ate lunch at Puckett's Grocery and Restaurant - great food.

After lunch we browsed through the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.  What we found most interesting were the exhibits about the history of county music.

Dinner was at a local BBQ place called Jack's BBQ.  It is cafeteria-like dining, but the BBQ and sides were excellent.  http://www.jacksbarbque.com/history.html

No visit to Nashville would be complete without a stroll down Honky Tonk Row.  Along Broadway between 4th and 5th street lie numerous bars and eateries, as well as boot shops.  One of the most notorious is Legends Corner, but there are many others along this street.  Inside, most all have live bands and singers trying to make it into the "country music business".  The talent at these establishments is phenomenal.  We went in quite a few - Tootsies, Tin Roof, Legends, Whiskey Bent Saloon.

We spent Wednesday at the dock at Rock Harbor Marina, recuperating from the long day on Tuesday.  Rock Harbor is a nice marina and was built in an old rock quarry.

To add to our collection of "You Never Know What You Are Going To See On The River", we found this psychedelic catfish sculpture at the marina.

An old boating friend from Cincinnati, Pat, was in Nashville for a business trip.  We had dinner with him and his wife, Marcia, when we were docked at Cincinnati a couple of weeks ago.  Wednesday, we had dinner with him at the Blue Moon Waterfront Cafe (the restaurant at the marina).  The food was good and company was even better.  It was a great way to end our visit to Nashville.
