MICHIGAN CITY, IN - FAMILY VISIT

Saturday, September 5th to Wednesday, September 9th, 2015

Day 397-401
Miles Traveled: 0
Total Miles Traveled: 6160

Saturday we left "Seahorse" at the marina and drove the 200+ miles to visit family over the Labor Day weekend.  Saturday was devoted to Angie's family and Sunday and Monday were with Dan's son's family.  We enjoyed the time with our niece, nephew, and grand kids.

Tuesday, we drove back to Michigan City.  We had eaten almost everything out of the fridge prior to leaving, so, it was a good time for a defrost.  This job has to be done about once a month and it had been a month since it was last done.  We did a few other monthly jobs and then headed to the local West Marine store to pick up the new fresh water pump that was supposed to have arrived that morning.  It had not arrived.  The hope was that it would arrive later in the afternoon.  It did not.  After reviewing the weather it was determined that we would not be leaving on Wednesday, so hopefully the pump would arrive that day.  We had actually ordered two pumps - one to replace the one currently installed and not working and the other for a backup.  The second pump never got ordered.  While we were in the store, that pump was ordered and sent to Hammond Marine (our next stop).  So at least, there will be a new pump waiting for us there.  Both pumps were still under warranty so we were just swapping them out for new ones.  We usually keep a spare pump on board, but, we used our spare just before entering Canada.  While in Canada, we were not able to get to a West Marine for a replacement pump.

Wednesday was a busy day with laundry, grocery shopping, and other errands.  Again, the fresh water pump previously ordered did not arrive.  The store manager did some investigating and discovered that the pump was accidentally shipped to Indianapolis.  The pump would not arrive until later on Thursday.  She agreed to have it overnighted to Hammond Marine and we could send the faulty pump back to her via FedEx.  We did take some time out of the busy day and walked around the park area near the marina.  There is an old lighthouse that houses a museum.  It was one of the prettier lighthouses we have seen on Lake Michigan.  We did not take the time to go inside.

At the entrance to the Washington Park area is a Civil War Monument.  With our travels in the rental car, we drove around this monument at least a dozen times.

We also took a walk out to the beach and got to enjoy a little of Lake Michigan's sand dunes.

We decided not to turn in the rental car until the following morning.  This allowed us to take several other Loopers to the grocery to pick up some much needed items.  It is always nice to be able to help out fellow Loopers.
