Day 39
Miles Traveled: 63
Total Miles Traveled: 1039

We finally broke 1000 miles in this journey and only about 5000-6000 more to go.  We can't wait to see all the sites yet to come.  The Tennessee River on this section began to look more like a river and less like a lake.  It reminded us a lot of our home cruising ground on the Ohio River.
We encountered our lowest bridge so far, the CSX Railroad Lift Bridge.  When down, the bridge clearance is 24 feet.  Our height with antennas up is about 19 feet, so we did not have to call to have it raised. But, Angie still held her breath while going underneath it.

We passed by Lady Finger Bluff and "The Narrows".  Legend has it that a pioneer lady chose to leap to her death from this bluff rather than be caught by attacking Indians.  The name, "The Narrows", was given to this section of the river by the steamboat pilots/captains because the river becomes very narrow here.  This also causes an increase in the current.

We have seen several eagles in flight on the Tennessee River, and were lucky enough to see TWO perched on a tree on a high bluff.  We love our Nikon Coolpix L820 - it takes great pictures and has a phenomenal zoom.

We stopped at Clifton Marina in Clifton, TN and used the marina courtesy car to go into town to get milk at the local general store.  Main Street is only about 2 blocks long, but did have some interesting looking buildings.

For those literary buffs, Clifton's claim to fame is being home to the Pulitzer Prize winning author, T.S. Stribling.  Below is a picture of his old home place.
