CROTON ON HUDSON, NY - TRAINS, TAXIS, AND SUBWAYS IN NYC

Monday, June 1st to Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015

Day 301-302
Miles Traveled: 0
Total Miles Traveled: 4328

Monday we watched it rain, and rain, and rain, and rain.  The one benefit of all the rain was that it washed the salt spray off of the boat.  Luckly, we had no plans for the day other than to relax and recharge.

Tuesday we took the Metro North Train to downtown New York City.  It was a pleasant 50 minute ride alongside the Hudson River.  We arrived at Grand Central Station and enjoyed the view of the Main Concourse.

After leaving Grand Central Station we hailed a cab to take us to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.  It was one of the scariest cab rides we have ever been on.  The traffic was unbelievable and the cab driver was weaving around cars that were stopped in the middle of the road.  Not only was it scary, it was also expensive due to all the traffic delays.  We did arrive at our final destination safely.  We arrived at about lunchtime, so found a nearby mall with a food court right next to the new World Trade Center.

After lunch we visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.  We felt the museum was very well done.  It was difficult seeing the artifacts and being reminded of that terrible day.  The images (which we saw on TV) of the towers falling will never be erased from our memories and those whose lives where lost will never be forgotten.

On display at the 9/11 Museum is the National 9/11 Flag.  Soon after 9/11, this flag hung on the facade of a building across from the World Trade Center site.  By October it had become worn and tattered and was removed.  Seven years later, a restoration project for the flag was started.  By the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the flag had been to all 50 states.  In each state, threads or patches from decommissioned American flags where stitched into the flag.

After completing the tour of the 9/11 Museum, we decided to take the subway back to Grand Central Station.  We walked in the rain to the subway station for the E line.  This subway line got us about 9 blocks from Grand Central Station.  We were pretty wet when we arrived and caught the Metro North train back to Croton on Hudson.  Dan & Jacque on "Horizon Chaser" shared a taxi with us from the train station back to the marina.  The rain finally stopped just in time to go to dinner.  Dinner was pizza at a local pizzeria, Dan & Jacque joined us.  This stop has been good for us to finally catch our breath and get some much needed rest.
