Day 317
Miles Traveled: 52
Total Miles Traveled: 4619
Below is a picture of our view that we awoke to on this
beautiful morning.
It was a day filled with blue skies and
sunshine. Quite different than the day
prior. We enjoyed breathtaking vistas of
the New York Adirondack Mountains to our left and hills and smaller mountains
of Vermont
to our right.
There did not appear to be any bridges across
the wide expanse of Lake Champlain . People move from one side to the other by
ferry. We saw three different locations
for ferry service. One service, which
runs from Grand Isle to Plattsburgh ,
had three ferries running all at the same time.
Just before the Canadian border, we stopped
at travels at Barcombs Marina. Dan
quickly washed the muck from the locks off of the side of the boat and then we
took a walk into town. There are a few
small shops, a Dollar General, and two pizza places; but, not much else.
Due to our close proximity to Canada, we have turned off our Verizon JetPack, or MiFi, which was providing us with internet. It is very costly to use data from our data plan off of Canadian cell towers. We have also switched the settings on our phones so that data exchange will not occur unless connected to WiFi. We will be relying on free internet at marinas, libraries, and restaurants for our internet activities while we travel through Canada.
For dinner we went to the bar, Last Resort (not the chain), on site at the marina. The menu was very small and only fried foods - chicken tenders, french fries, wings, etc. We settled on the buffalo wings and onion rings. We were pleasantly surprised. The wings were some of the best wings we had ever had. They were very meaty and the sauce was spectacular. Turned out to be a great dinner. And, to top it off, it was very reasonably priced. Dan really liked the 75 cent beer.
NOTE: Yeah! We had free and good wifi at the Barcombs Marina and were able to post this blog entry without difficulty. However, we should be entering Canada tomorrow. I mention this because our WiFi access will be limited. Uploading the blog posts will occur when we can find free WiFi, and, if it is a slow connection, pictures may have to be added later. We WILL continue to blog, but, several posts may show up at one time, and, pictures may show up later.
